Default break pad dealer shenannigans

Decided to get my brake pads changed after hearing the squeel of the wear indicators (fronts worn, rears not too far behind) and thought i'd pop into my local dealer for a quote, although i expected that my local indy would end up doing it. I'll recount the turn of events as accurately as i can as i'm interested in your thoughts.

Me "hello, i'd like a quote for changing the brake pads on my S2000"

If you said "all four sets", then that's pretty clear.

I sympathise with your point but since it was verbal and not confirmed in writing, the quote isn't worth the paper its written on.

Just put it down to expereience and make a small note to self to go where high standards of customer service matter.

Wonder what would have happened if you'd have asked for "just 2" pads replacing.

Next time get aftermarket pads (cheaper and better) and DIY it. Takes 30mins and saves you speaking to dealerships.

Suggest you get all quotes emailed if possible.

Dont trust anyone in the 'service industry'.

Based on my exposure to Honda dealerships (and in six months, I have had far too much) - avoid them like the plague unless absolutely necessary.

Your experience sounds completely typical! They once gave my car back with no fuel once despite the fact it went in with a quarter tank. I made sure everyone knew though - including new customers!

Apologies to the few dealerships out there that actually provide descent service (if there are any)

Put it down to experience.

Me "no problem, can i just cofirm that's for all four sets, not just the fronts as mentioned to your colleague?"

That line to me makes you in the right.

Name and shame them on here.

Russ.

Westgate Honda in Grimsby: even for the 70 odd mile extra round trip, i'll be using a different $tealer from now on.

To be honest if a customer said he wanted pads changed I would immediately think fronts as they wear out quicker - however, a customer stating "all four sets" would raise doubts in my mind and I would be compelled to ask a few questions about what he was thinking of.

Unfortunately, when a Service Advisor is thinking of the job, he thinks along the lines of where on the car, not how many so there is confusion there which was not really clarified by either party as you all thought you were doing the right thing.

As a side note, the price you were quoted is probably off the Honda Happiness list although the S2000 is not included. There have been posts on this forum quoting pad replacement in excess of
