Brakes on fire!
Just collected my car from having new fluid and Porterfield R4S pads fitted, thought I just 'check if they were working OK'.
Did some hard braking from about 80 to 20 on a nice empty stretch of dual carriageway, arrived back in traffic, cue nasty smell, flames and smoke from my rear wheels.
This usually happens on 1st Lotus days and is apparently some coating on the pads getting hot and burning off so quite harmless.
A chap pulls up alongside me honking his horn and mouthing "you're on fire mate" to which I reply with a thumbs up and a big cheesy grin. He looks at me as if I'm mental and drives off.
Very childish, but highly amusing
Seems to be a massive improvement in braking, but I'm wondering if this is more down to the old fluid being a bit 'off'

I imagine your old pads were also pretty knackered too and I guess that's more likely the reason for the immediate improvement you noticed, since the higher boiling point of the new braking fluid would not be noticable until you had really given the brakes a good seeing to?
