Default Brake problem

My post on DanTheMan's thread didn't seem to be getting any attention, so I thought I'd start my own.......

I've just started noticing a bit of a 'groan' from the back brakes when pulling away slowly. I haven't noticed it from a cold start, but couldn't swear that it doesn't do it.

I don't think performance is down, the car rolls freely and MPG is still ok, but I presume this isn't good news all the same - is this the first sign of a siezed caliper?.....

Yes would guess your calipers are starting to sieze slightly.

Try a bit of heavy footed breaking and bang the hand brake on and off a good few times and see if that helps at all.

Might just need a good bit of use.

Got plenty of material left on the pads?

Could well be sticky, easy answer is get it to the local guy with some rollers for a brake test?

Can you define the 'groan' a bit more?

Could also be an incorrectly torqued hub nut. That can cause all sorts of weird noises from he rear end.

Could it be damp pads sticking to the discs overnight?

Is it just when you move off?
If not if could be the spring mounts that hold the pads have broken/failed/missing.
If so it sounds like your caliper/s are seizing..get a brake test and you will soon find out.

Thanks all.

The noise is, to my ear at least, typical of a brake 'rubbing' and yes, it's only when I pull off slowly, i.e. monouvering through a car park etc.

I've only really noticed it when the car is warm, when, presumably, parts have expanded. I wondered if there was a history of brakes being a bit sensetive, other than the siezed caliper issue?

I'll get it to the garage for a check ASAP anyway, but it's always nice to have some advice before you go. I was going to book a slot at TGM for a geo set up - anyone know if they do this sort of stuff too?

Cheers,......
