Brake lights not working!

'look fine' Have you taken the lamps out and actually checked the filaments?
I'd also check the fuse...drivers side, under the dash IIRC.
I've not heard of the pedal switch going before, although there's a slim possibility.

Apparently it's fuse 20, in the engine bay, this is ok. I'll try getting some new bulbs tomorrow just to be sure. But would one broken bulb take out both lamps?

No need to buy new lamps willy nilly...pull a lamp out and see if the filament is broken...there will be two in there, one for the rear lights, one for the brake lights...if one filament is duff...you know you need a new lamp.

One of the filaments looked a bit ropey but still seemed to be intact, compared to the other one. But the other bulb was totally fine, visually.
All I can really do is replace both bulbs next as its the cheapest/easiest thing to try?

...atleast you'll have spares for when they do fail, if it's not the bulbs
time to get technical with your AVO/multimeter/test light.
iirc, the clutch switch can be swapped with the brake switch (or so i think i've read on here...)

Yeah I'll start simple with the bulbs, if not I'll cry in a corner as I'm useless at anything more tech than checking bulbs.
All the light related fuses I checked just to be sure and they are intact.
