Default Which brake fluid? DOT 3/4?

Tried using the search function but it doesn't seem to be working at the moment after the forum update!

Was wondering which brake fluid to use, DOT 3 or DOT 4? I was under the impression DOT 3 was the one recommended for the S2000 but after checking Opieoils website it recommeneds DOT 4!

Which do people here recommened (im doing fluid change!) Was currently looking at this http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-855-silkolene-...utch-fluid.aspx or http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-891-motul-dot-...tems-dot-3.aspx

Any advice?

Dot4, or DOT 5.1, or Motul RBF600 for track work.

I was recommended the RBF600 just waiting for the brake hoses to arrive and will be getting it changed!

The RBF600 is a relativley inexpensive upgrade, I've done that myself for track use. In answer to your original question the UK owners manual says Honda Brake Fluid DOT3 or DOT4, it also says that DOT 5 is not compatible.

Dot 3&4 are compatible.

Dot 5 and 5.1 aren't

3 & 4 & 5.1 are compatible. 3 & 5, or 4 & 5, or 5.1 & 5 aren't compatible.

RBF600 is good and relatively cheap, and is DOT4, but don't assume that 5.1 is always better than 4 because it isn't.

Is that clear? Good.

Basically: if you're doing trackdays, RBF600 or equivalent. If you're not, don't worry about it. Any DOT3 or DOT4 will be fine. Just don't leave it for 5 years between changes.

My post is correct.

The numbering is misleading.
DOT 5.1 is misceable with 3 and 4.

DOT 5 however is TOTALLY different as its silicone.
It will eat OEM seals too, so not normally used on a road car.
