Good question, I would expect it is due to the lower density of water vs SRF. Water will tend to accumulate in the lowest part of the braking system, combined with 'very low' temperatures there is a risk of water freezing in the calipers/brake pipes.

Not really too much of an issue in the UK.

I've never had any fluid fade with RBF600, and I change it every year or so.

I'm also in the DS2500s cracked disks club.

I think pads are the most important thing. Dixcels are great, but it's not just the disks that are expensive.

Just done a little research on pricing, DBA 4000 and Tarox F2000 is around the same price mark. Anyone had experience with Tarox F2000 brake disc?

Dembo, what disc were you using with those DS2500 when it crack?

EBC. Several other people had cracks with other disks at about the same time. I cracked both fronts on the same day at Angelsey.

They also tend to cause judder, which is no fun.

Still, I think DS2500s are very good pads for the road, and work well up to a point on trackdays. I'll probably buy more of them.

What did you replaced them with? New EBC or something else?

Eric,

I think you are overthinking this a bit.

OEM pads along with OEM or BI discs, and Motul RBF600 fluid are fine for trackdays, all that's required is to brake a bit earlier than you would if using something fancier.

As you've not yet done a track day, your money would be far better spent on some sessions with an instructor. Then, once you get some idea of what you're doing, think about spending more on brakes.

Just my tuppence...

From my experience I had brand new BI pads which I thought where comparible to OEM pads, lasted me until 3pm at Rockingham last week. By that point I had next to nothing on both sets of rear pads and a squeeling noise which I later found out was because the drivers side pads where also completely gone (Strangely enough the front passenger side pads faired ok only eating up 3/4 of the pads). When I was at Brands earlier in the year I managed to get through half off my standard OEM pads. So maybe its also down to what track your on or the OEM pads aren't to bad? Either way I don't think I will be going with BI pads for track usage again.

That does seem to be the general perception of the BI pads, and that the OEM are a bit better.

I used OEM on the front all day at Rockingham, and was informed that there was 20% left at the service on Monday. THe pads had been used for the whole of last winter as well. Once I'd figured out that I needed to brake a bit earlier than I would with the Dixcels, all was well.

I've used OEM to good effect on track days in the past too.

You did well there Simon. I had new Yellowstuff pads on front and rear for Rockingham. Changed them all today: front outboard pads were down to the backing plate. Rears only about half worn. We did 180 miles on track.
