The BP garage near work does indeed have the new Ultimate fuel. I haven't tried it as yet as I didn't have the S with me when I saw it. However if there is any news on this thread tonight I could take the S into work tomorrow and fill up with Ultimate to see how it compares to Optimax.
Bit nervous about doing it but we can see the results if needs be.

It was indeed me who gave the information.
At present I 'm still trying to get the exact RON from the techies at work, but it is definately still 97 RON SUL with a new additive at a high doseage rate, the base product from the refinery is still the same spec, as they also use this to produce LRP (different additives again). Only way the RON could increase is if their is an octane booster in the additive.
As for Shell, they do blend a special higher octane brew at the refinery for Optimax, then add additives as well, this has given them a logistics nightmare moving the stuff all over the country from their refinery, where in the past they would buy normal SUL from any other oil company local to that region.
Not back in the office until next monday, so I'll see what I can find out.
I tend to use both Optimax and Ultimate, does not seem a great difference between the two IMHO.

Having fed my car on Optimax since it was born - and then the other day having to feed it on Total - thro' a gross miscalculation on my part - which it is still trying to recover from - I am errrm - hesitant about this.
