I think this is a great new direction for BMW and it looks terrific, I can't remember the last really sporty out and out GT car they made..... even the classic 635CSI was pretty saloonesque

My eyes are not quite adjusted to that BMW yet...kind of a pumped up look to it with the huge wheels.
The new Lexus is also fat and flabby when you see it at close quarters - despite coming from a Euro design studio is still has the typical Japanese lack of ...?? something...??
However the 2+2 with retractable aluminium roof is a great concept which I would hope be adopted by Honda/BMW as it makes it a very attractive proposition if you have a couple of kids.

I ve yet to see the Lexus, but I am informed it's just a big blob.
I really don't understand BMW's new look. Perhaps the cars look ok in the metal but the photos are really disgusting. They remind me of the 30's Delahayes and Delages that were really OTT. I know they've done the Michelotti look to death, but the M1 and Z1 were different and pretty.
Having said that, the S2K does not photograph well, especially front 3/4. The car's pronounced taper is negated by perspective, and the subtle angles are lost. Look at the white thing at the top of this page.

I've sat in the Lexus (whilst in Tokyo) and it is a very curvy/blobby type of jelly mould car, it is also very comfy, when the roof is down there is absolutely no boot space, and I really do mean none. As for the +2 seats, I think you would have a problem if you were 6' tall and wanted anyone behind you, the front seat would be pretty much against the rear, so a baby perhaps but that's baout it.
It looked the sort of car the SLK driver might buy, comfy, gadgety and safe. But its definitely not a sports car.
