I accept a cars doesn't have to be quick to be enjoyable to drive but we all know people buying a 150BHP Z4 are not buying it because of the way it drives

Possibly that its 'only 150 BHP from a 2.0'
Where the S is 240BHP.
Like people have said, BMW brought out the Z4 because the Z3 was pretty crap but then go and dilute it with a lower model.
A lot of manufactures do it and i personally think its pretty crap.

Not everyone wants a fast car.
Perhaps those that can't afford a 3.0 Z4 shouldn't be allowed to buy one?
I can't understand why only having 150bhp makes the car crap - the car is no different to a 3.0 Z4, just slower...

You don't have to be an 'enthusiast' to enjoy a sports car...
BMWs are overpriced, overrated, overweight and ...damn can't think of another "over"... but they'll sell and devalue the brand, but BMW have been doing that for a while by making Minis and the Chrysler PMT lookalike, the Series 1.
I look around our office car park and it's like a BMW showroom - what a dreary, unimaginitive and sheep like bunch of tw*ts work in my office

I was in a Vectra Tdi yesterday on the M62 and a 325 undecut me like a tit, so I nailed my car (as much as I could) and the 325 moved off like a scalded cat. It was pretty fast, ie the diesel Vectra couldn`t catch it.
So, some BMWers do want to drive fast!

Put it this way, would you like it if Honda brought out a 1 litre version of the S, looked the same and everything?
I know i wouldnt.
I know i wouldnt.
Two very different aspects of the motor industry.
Some BMW drivers do want to drive fast, others don't - so BMW sells cars to all in the case of the Z4. However, BMW's niche roadster was the Z8...they didn't make a lower powered version of this because it was addressing a particular buyer as I've expalined above.
If Honda made a S1000 I wouldn't like it because a niche product (high performance sports car) would no longer be niche which was one of the aspects of the S2000 which encouraged me to buy it
The Z4 range already had the 2.5i and 3.0i so it was obvious they were going to launch cheaper versions - it was never going to be just a 2 car range, as well as a more expensive version in terms of a MZ4 . Will a MZ4 'dilute' the range by 'cheapening' the previous 3.0 range topper?...perhaps there should only be one car in every range (we would all be like sheep then)...
...oh, and 'wind in the hair' motoring and the enjoyment of a sports car DOES NOT require speed...

Nice thing about the Z4 is you can drop the hood whilst rolling, no need for the handbrake. Same for the new Boxster.
thing about a Z4 with 150BHP is, well.. its like a fezza kit car with a beetle engine you know.. Appreciate people will buy for the status and not for the performance but this goes against what BMW were saying when they brought it out. They called it the Z4 rather than the Z3 as they wanted a distinct difference to the lousy little brother. Now from the looks of it all they are doing is filling the gap where the Z3 once stood.
