bmw 3 series??
Those of you who live (or drive through) the southern part of Essex will know the nice new a130 bypass. Trundelling along towards the roundabout I saw in my rear view mirror a silver fully body kitted bmw m3 weaving through the traffic, so being in that sort of mood I decided to race him onto the a130 (new road, so very smooth and racetrack like!!). Well i in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd made no distance at all and then he undertook me and left me for dead . I did glance and see the badge schnitzer (or similar) on the back, does anyone know what this car was???

I seem to recall 'Schnitzer' are BMWs works touring car team and they also do a lot of specialist tuning for BMW. If it was an E46 M3 it was likely to have putting out in excess of 300bhp

Thought M3's (newish ones - M reg onwards) were around 340 BHP? Schnitzer do 'em up so I'd say you were right to be left for dead, looks-wise though, M3's with schnitzer kits resemble a BMW covered in glue & driven through Halfords!

I think Schnitzer is more aimed towards various cosmetic add ons but they do suspension and exhausts to.

Standard E36 M3s put out between 286bhp (3.0 5-speed) and 321bhp (3.2 Evo 6 speed/SMG) and the E46 343 bhp (6 speed/SMG). Torque figs are well into the 200's.
Once rolling, there will be nothing in it between an S2000 and either E36. The E46 should win every time. I'm talking about coupes not convertibles here, but the difference isn't that great anyway. 0-100 my betting would still be on any of the above models. Thousands of tests don't lie and I have driven every model.
The main reson for the levelling out of the performance is is power to weight, any of these M3s being substantially heavier than an S.
As for Schnitzer, they are usually associated with body mods. Be more concerned with Hartge or Alpina who are more likely to have stuck a V8 or similar under the bonnet of an E36 (they are all 6-cyl as std).
Some people seem to think the S is quicker than an M3 - they are dreaming. Personally, I am very happy with the straight line performance of the S and I think it's great that the performance of the two cars is so similar.
