Default The BMW 1

I'm in a chatty mood today - three topics came to me all at once, so a bit like busses you'll have to bear with the deluge

Drove it as a rental the last two days. Couple of quick thoughts, IMO I like the look of it, it does attract glances (in Ireland) so is a distinctive car along with the brand name.
Disappointed by the handling. I

Well the sort of people who are going to buy it probably won't have an S2000 as well!

It's a mass produced car and has to cater for all driving abilities. They've probably developed it to a certain level and then left it at that. Who's going to want to buy BMW's other cars if they made the 1 series the best you can buy? Plus more performance = more $$$$.

As for it being RWD, we all know it's more efficient to push rather than pull. They're just sticking to what they do.

Two things I would say, in between eating my Meatball Marinara from Subway.

Any car turns heads in Ireland that isn't a 20 year old banged up jap import.

They didn't specifically set out to make it RWD, it's just that BMW refuse (rightly so) to do FWD.

That is all.

Fight the power.
Most people are addicted to the taste of fat, salt & guar gum anyway!

DWS,

It really doesn't matter how the 1-series drives or looks, as long as it's distinctive. People are similarly addicted to the brand, as they are to the taste of processed food.
