Default Blyton Park Trackday [Vid]

The results from Javelin Trackday's 6/6/15 Blyton Park trip. Too much fun.

I thought that was a pretty quick lap for road tyres on a standard car to be fair, worked out about 1.18. What tyres are you running out of interest, just so I don't go and buy the same they didn't look like they were offering you much grip.

They are Bridgestone Adrenaline RE002. They are pretty well worn now to be fair, 3 trackdays and about 3/4 down on the rear. While it looks like they weren't giving much grip, dialing the pace back a little would result in quite a well mannered drive. Tyre pressures were probably a little higher than ideal too. I kinda feel now that this is just how the s2k likes to be driven! What would be a good benchmark time around Blyton? I have no idea.

To get a quicker lap time you would need to be on the power way earlier out of corners, and minimise loss of traction as that's compromising getting the power down. Can just hear the throttle over the wind noise

Indeed! I've noticed since having the s2k that mid corner power really seems to bring on quite strong over steer - guess that's why I find it so much fun. I'm very reluctant to start doing modifications to suspension components as I feel it would take away quite a lot of this characteristic and while it would probably be faster, it likely wouldn't be as fun to drive. My last car was an S15 Silvia on Federal RSR's and while it was pretty damn fast and extremely compliant, it wasn't very exciting unless it was on the verge of crashing. The s2k is far more fun at slower speeds.

You'll be happy to know I've just ordered a replacement external mic for the camera, so it'll be under bonnet noise from now on

Yep, and that can either be too high entry speed or setup. A lap time will nearly always be quicker by going slower in than too fast.

But like you say, those laps look a lot of fun and what track days should be about.

Good news on the mic
