If they are the standard speakers then it's very easy to blow them! Done it myself the first week i had the car!

The standard Honda speakers are a very low wattage, 15 watts if i remember correctly!

You can blow pretty much any speaker from any headunit if you try hard enough. Speakers are usually blown when the amplifier is pushed too hard and distorts the signal, squaring off the wave.

It's a myth that a higher wattage speaker will not blow from a low watt amp, indeed it is very likely that this can happen. The trick is to match up wattage between the amp and speakers and make sure that the impedence is right.

Have you got rear speakers? That should get you the extra volume without risking blowing the speakers.

I haven't got any because, like you, I don't listen to the stereo much when I'm driving the S, but it is something I'm considering.

just as a side note. On my old S, the speakers were distorting a lot like they were blown. Then I realised that on the radio it was fine but not on CD changer. Basically the cable in the back of the headunit to the CD changer was loose. I firmed up the connection and all was well. No need to take anything apart as you can reach the back of the HU with your hands under the dash.

Probably no help but worth a try nonetheless.
