Blaupunkt (DAB54) & DAB Aerial
Hi All,
I have a question, on the weekend the weather was kind enough to let me install my purchased Woodstock DAB54. I got it off ebay and the chap didn't have the internal glass mounted aerial, just a converter that plugs into the aerial and SMB socket.
I know these are meant to be poor, but instead of splashing out

Hi
I've got the DAB54 and have not had any issues with the gender of the FM aerial lead
I do, however, have the windscreen aerial so I have a separate DAB and FM connection.
I'm not entirely convinced that the windscreen aerial is the best though, and am currently looking at alternative DAB aerials (looking, but not necessarily doing anything about it at the moment )
With regards to the switching off, I think you've probably got the permanent live feed plugged in on the countdown lead - you should be able to unplug and replug to the ignition power (IIRC - I can't quite remember)

I had the same setup as you on my S (DAB54, Countdown Interface) and went for an in-screen aerial as I'd been told that fitting a dual DAB/FM aerial would be time consuming and expensive.
You can see my aerial at the top of the screen in this pic. Unobtrusive to the point I forgot it was there.
I had my aerial fitted at the local Blaupunkt dealer so can't comment on the size of connections, other than to say that both the DAB aerial and the original beesting were both connected. My HU turned off with the ignitiion but would power up at the first "click" on the ignition barrel.

Cheers for the info. So do you have your original FM aerial plugged into the back of the Woodstock ( as well as your DAB aerial) and it fits ok?
I was also thinking about an external DAB 'box' aerial. ( I think JVC do them - not sure if its just for JVC tho) but I've not heard any reviews so far

You may find you need a converter to change the gender of the FM lead - these aren't hard to come by, I'm sure Halfords will sell you one
I have found a (JVC I think) beesting DAB aerial which could potentially replace the FM one, so I only have DAB in the car and not FM. Still not decided whether I want to go down this route or not yet..

Thanks for the advice. Ill pop down to halfords to see if they've got any converters for the aerial. Then if the DAB quality is rubbish through the existing aerial, Ill buy the glass mount one and fit it like you guys
cheers

Depends where you drive - some recommend a powered DAB twig.
The Civ's got the JVC instal, similar to the above pic.
Reception's fine, except in the bottom of the valley, where it pops off.

It's standard fit on the Elise 111R. Good radio actually, if a little wimpy. DAB reception is like a mobile signal though, top class or nothing, there is no "fuzzy" in between.
