Anyone up to anything sneaky then?
so it should give me the extra 10HP claimed on Jap cars?
just for a track day or something

I don't think it works quite like that Dan, the extra compression will give more HP for the same timing.
And I doubt you'd really get more pre det on 99ron instead of 100ron in the real world.
It's not as if the car can tell what octaine you put in, it could only tell when it's getting pre det.

Correct, maybe a bit more with octane booster.
You will be pretty much optimum on V power though, so only really worth it for track days. Doubt it would be noticable though.
I would only use Millers if you are going to do it!
One thing I have noticed on my car, is that after a severe hammering on the Nurburgring and the motorways - the car is absolutely flying compared to before I went.
Just shows what a good clear out does! Must have been quite coked up.
I think some high speed clear out runs are the way forward

Bibbs - the car can tell in a way - from the knock control. If the addition of booster allows more scope for ignition timing advance, then you will get a touch more power (ECU constantly searces for advance).
If a more det resistant fuel is used then the ECU reset, it should base its timing levels on that fuel as it will start from scratch and advance until it picks up some det, then back off a touch. It will do this itself eventually anyway, however. Just a reset is quicker.
Power gain is tiny in this instance however.

If it doesn't detect pre det up to the optimum, it'd make no difference.
There is also then a a difference between the power gained from the timing, and the power gained from a fuel with more explosive power.
I remember reading somewhere that Tesco's would allow more advance, but VPower gave more power.

The ECU doenst aim for a fixed timing setpoint though, its a variable.
It detects until it picks up knock / det, so a better fuel will in theory allow more advance.
I dont know what the boundaries are, but a JDM ECU will have scope to advance timing for a 100 ron fuel and maybe a touch more. And it will also cut back if you are using 97.
