A friend of mine has a Honda that sound similar to that B18C above, but only for a short time and only at start up (cold and hot)

Any ideas what it might be Ron?

Very much sounds like a hydraulic tappets issue, but I can't think of any Honda's that have them!

It's an F20C, so definitely not hydraulic tappets

I don't think it has any other symptons, not not high mileage and runs well AFAIK

and is not an 08/09

If it's tapping then it will be the cam chain adjuster of the valve clearances need doing.

Big end failure is more common in turbo cars, especially older EVO's and Impreza's. It sounds more like a constant thudding/dull knock and is usually followed eventually by loss of oil pressure and your check oil light.
Keep your oil topped up and you should never need to worry about it but you will know if it happens as it's a pretty distinctive sound.
If you're planning on tracking your S at any any sort of pace then get a baffle put in. I believe you can get drop in ones as well these days, or at least you can for the K20.

It's not my car knocking, my oil pressure is fine, and I've already got a baffled sump
