Not to be too hard on the chap but he was very naive, there is a usually number on the back of the draft that you can call to confirm it's authenticity. It's also worth pointing out that drafts from smaller banks like Alliance and Leicester can be cancelled like normal cheques....

Accepting a piece of paper for a 20 grand car and assuming that it's genuine is crazy.

The last time I sold a car (my ATR ) I asked the guy to send the money by CHAPS. Same day transfer, once the bank confirmed I had the cah, I gave him the keys and docs.

Easiest thing ever, and only cost

And another small point - do not part with the log book or any other document such as service history until all cash is cleared and safely in your bank!

I had to think about this when selling my Scoob last year. I had a guy flying up with a bankers draft to pick up the car there and then...

http://forums.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.p...t=bankers+draft

In the end we went to his bank which was the same as mine and we did a cash transfer. The bank guaranteed that the funds were in my account before I handed over the keys. Cost

Hi guys just to add to this. Im selling my Bimmer and had a call from a chap who asked what my address was first question, not what is the mileage or what condition etc. I said I live in SW London but will be away for a few days and he said again what is your address?

very dodgy to me

when I told him that he should give me a call when he is near Chiswick he lost interest! Be careful there are som complete W@nkers around!!
