I do one these roads regularly and it's a nightmare! No traffic, ever! And it's five lanes wide and is always dry and sunny!
[QUOTE]Abu Dhabi: The speed limit on two major highways in the emirate has been increased from 120km/h to 160 km/h for a trial period of six months.

sweet! it would be great if we could legally travel at that speed here, though most of the time we would still crawl at 30mph in the jams lol
Good work mr Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan! HTF he manages to sign that on the back of his credit card is beyond me
Will be interesting to see the results of their trial. If it can work there.......

The RAC and AA have called upon the government to raise the limit to 80mph I read recently.
It'd be a start, if they did it anyway.
I mean, a speed limit based on 1960's stopping distances/braking technology?

It doesn't sound like the roads in Abu Dhabi are nearly as bad as ours.

Yes - the road is empty, Perfectly surfaced and 5 lanes wide all the way.
I've lived my life by my sig AE and it's done me just fine so far.
I have a meeting in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday - I'll let you know what the time difference is.
Probably about 15 mins or something silly!

Just watched that vid.
Here's a statistic for you.
First of all you have to bear in mind that National Emiraties make up less than 20% of the population here, the rest being expats. 50% of that 20% are under the age of 35.
That 50% of the 20% are responsible for 65% of speed related deaths on the roads of the United Arab Emirates.
Oh well, if it wasn't drifting cleaning the gene pool, they'd only be interbreeding to keep the money within the families anyway.
Now I know that there are some guys from Dubai that log in here and I'll stand by what I just said.
You know how too many sweets will spoil a child...
