I cant fault the Cooper S I had, over 220bhp for just over a grand, buy a good example for 11k and get it chipped and pulley'd and it will give an S a fright in a straight line with fantastic cornering to boot!

Looks like he has rulled them all out!

If it has to be a hatch, the CTR or breadvan would be my choice. Second hand examples can be gotten for a good price, and runing costs aint too bad.

The again, i just cant imagine driving a...Golf.

Another option would be the Cupra R. Nicer than a golf, nice brakes, and more scope for power upgrades than the CTR and clio (on a cost vs performance basis)

My my 2p anyway

AHhheeerrrm,

I believe he is looking for a hatch, not a coupe!

Although i would have a DC5/DC2 Over any of the forementioned any day
