My experience is that whilst on the Autoroutes and major roads the behaviour is as described, they tend not to slow down when it comes to the twisty bits. They would scream up the mountain passes at the same 110kph that they were going at on the major roads. I spent 6 months as a driver in Tignes and lost count of the number of local drivers that would overtake on blind hairpins and scare the beejesus out of people coming the other way. It beggars belief that I didnt see any serious prangs!

Dutch drivers are the scariest...they have no concept of 'braking distance', let alone 'thinking distance' or 'breathing space'. If you're not 4ft from the car in front you're using up too much space, and as for being smooth with the controls...I can only assume they're taught driving on a computer, their inputs are very 'digital'!

In fact, there was only 1 car that I had 'trouble' with (near Le Mans) and, yep you've guessed it, HE WAS ENGLISH
How could you tell he was English? Couldn't he have been Welsh or Scotish?

So much more civilised having a speed limit of 130 compared to our 70 don't you think
I always keep to the speed limit in France

Now go to Paris and see if your opinion remains
I enjoy driving in Paris - just a question of going native1
Think Italian city drivers are great at knowing exactly how wide their cars are!

I couldn't fit the camera on the bike unfortunately (it was taken down to the villa in a friend's car). There are photos from Virsac on my usual photo site though ...
