Behaviour since first service
#43
Mine had the same problem before my service, mentioned it to the guy. I thought the problem was the revs dropping too low. They said that the ECu need sorting, but said that sometimes it's caused by the air filter. Since getting the car back it has been spot on.

Has anyone with the post service 'issues' checked their oil level?
If a car is overfilled it can cause these issues - my old M3 was overfilled at a service and ran like a dog for a week until they took it back in a removed the 'extra' 1l of oil the had put in by mistake....
Worth a look...

the grease monkeys probably reset the ecu to hide the fact theyve just been doing vtec donuts in the car park behind
BTW as Davey says the car park is not big enough, i've tried in my own car of course.
Sounds very much like the engine is not liking the oil ie some of the old oil could still be in the system (don't use an engine flush though as this can do more damage than good) whilst this is mixing then idle etc may be a bit lumpy.
ECU reset may well be a good idea, as long as no CEL.
The engine will run differently on different oil so may need to 'learn' this and quickest way is an ECU reset.

I have checked the oil level and it's all fine - about 1 "marker" below the top.
It's got the Shell oil 5W40 in the grey bottle.. so to save taking it back to the dealer for an ECU reset, will it eventually re-learn or is it worth popping (well popping 30 miles) back?

This sounds like an EMS mapping problem. The revs drop too much for the injectors kick in again.
As said, nowt is adjusted on a first service, so I think the appearance of the fault is likely just coincedence.
I'd check battery connections and as suggested, would also try a reset by disconnecting for 10 minutes too.

Ok thanks, so disconnect the battery for 10 mins should reset the ECU?
As I understand it, it's little different from rebooting a PC - always allow a pause, but I think the perceived wisdom in this case is to leave it a little longer.
A word of caution. I guess that by disconnecting you could lose any stored fault codes. But then, if the problem hasn't gone away the codes will re-record, so you aren't any worse off....
I suppose the decision will be based on whether you are taking the car into the dealers in the next day or so. If you are, I'd leave things alone so they can hook up their diagnostics.
Last of all, IIRC you should remove the negative lead to disconnect the battery.
