Default beater yes or no

I know this has been done by countless others.

But I'm bored and why the hell not.

I am going to be doing about 350 motorway miles-half of which will be done on monday morning-half of which will be done on friday night. For the rest of the time the car will be stuck at my temporary digs. As I know FA people there & will spend my evenings either at the gym or studying the S will hardly be used in the week.

So realistically the S will only see proper use on weekends.

Seems a waste of the car.

I'm not arsed about putting miles on the car or about petrol. I am arsed about it being tricky on a cold frosty morning. I could do the journey in something more comfortable and less twitchy.

I can't leave a 3rd car on my street-council won't allow it.

My options are:

(a)-put up with the motorway drag in the S

(b)-sell the S, buy a beater. Buy another S in 6-9 months time when I won't have to travel.

( c)-buy a beater. Stick the S in a lock up for 6 months

Pussy

Sliding around on cold and frosty mornings IS the reason to own an S2000, to lock it away just because it's a "bit nippy" is for old men and faggots

A. Put up (it's hardly slumming it) with the S, as long as you've got somewhere safe to park it.

What mileage are you currently on?

When you do come to sell the S, a low mileage will make it easier and make you more money.

Look at the few with mega miles on them. MY00, 100k+ go for about 10k. MY00, 50k will go for about 14k.

350miles per week for 6 months = ~9.5k = 19k p.a if your average prior your mega commute has been low and once you've finished it will be low again then I expect you can ride it out. If it is already on the high side, I'd go for the beater or the train.

I have a small daily commute which hardly justifies a beater but I got clouted in the S by a motorbike last Jan, in shite weather and started to think it was a bit pointless driving such a car in such weather.

Got the beater in the summer and yes of course it costs a few quid but it has given me a real sense of freedom. No longer do I care about bad weather, having to park in town, worry about speeding, or ice, snow or aquaplaning.

Sport of the week at the moment is trotting down the dual carraigeway in the outside lane with a BMW on my tail..oh how they get worked up

Now I check out the weather, see where I have to go that day and choose the most appropriate car.

If I were you, i'd get a beater and keep the S to spoil yourself
