Default Which beater car ?

I currently live 8 miles from the train station but am moving to within 2 and although I will walk this mostly in the summer , in the winter I may not feel like it too much when its raining etc !!! I am thinking of getting a beater car because I dont want to leave my S in the station car park, i dont want to pay 3 quid a day and I dont want just drive 2 miles as this will do the car no good at all .

If I get a beater car I can park down a side street so wont pay car park fees. I ideally want the cheapest insurance group possible and the most easily to maintain . I was thinking of a 950 fiesta or something like this . Any ideas? What have other people got ?

cheers

I have an R reg Clio, only 1.2 but it does the job admirabley for just such an occasion. Insurance is cheap (can't remember the group sorry) and it has been pretty damn reliable.

I don't have a beater but would have thought that a cheap Ford is as good as anything - I'd just make sure that it's a model for which you can get spares quickly and cheaply. Some of the older Jap saloons like the Nissan Primera might also fit the bill.
