Yep, although "failed" isn't strictly accurate. Broken by an incompetent mechnaic (me) is more accurate.

It was about the same price, IIRC. But as I had to replace it anyway, it made sense to go for the baffled Spoon one. And yes, it was just a modified Honda sump.

It's probably a worthwhile precuation if you're serious. But lots of people have done lots of trackdays with their non-baffled sumps and have been fine. I also don't have the infamous jet bolt modification, which according to some means certain death to your engine within 5 miles.

I don't have a baffled sump, but at Donington have had a few quite dramatic puffs of oil smoke exiting Macleans when going hard.
I think we established that this is due to having the max amount of oil in the car - I hadn't noticed it myself until I slightly overfilled my engine oil and created a cloud of blue smoke going through McLeans

Over-tightening the drain bolt.

interesting thought!
where does the power gain come from? no mechanical driven oil-pump?

Toda has a conversion-kit. Pretty pricy though

No as you still need to add a pump normally.
The gain is from the crank not splashing in the oil - drag.

I have seen kits for engine transplants -
