Default Bad noise on start up

Hi,

Recently a couple of times when the cars started up the engine bursts to life and then immediately I hear a bad screeching noise a bit like you would if you turned the ignition in a normal car and held it there after the engine has started. The noise only lasts a second or so if that and it doesnt always do it.

Now it could be that I'm holding the start button in too long, but I have had my car for 4 years now and not had this before.

Mostly I just wanted to post to make sure no one replies with oo thats a sign of a very serious problem that will cost you hundreds to sort today but thousands if you leave it til next week. So no one better reply!

Thanks.

Could be lots of things.

Try and get someone to start it when you can get your head under the bonnet.

It could be the aux belt as they can squeel when damp and cold. It is automatically tensioned though.

Could also be the air pump on its way out.

Or just imminent engine death. (joke)

That sounds like what mine does sometimes. I posted a thread on it a few weeks ago and discovered that a few other people suffer from it as well.

There never was a resolution IIRC.

I'm sure it's the starter motor pinion sticking for a couple of seconds too long been happening to mine .think it's the cold damp weather that starts it off .probably needs taking off cleaning and regreasing.from what ive read on previous posts its not something to worry to much about

That was the general consensus in my thread as well, I believe.
