So it's just the bottom end bearings, nothing else?
Why not try new bottom end bearings? My dad had this done on his Toyota (1zz-fe, so no where near as stressed an engine mind), and he's had another 70,000 trouble free miles out of it. That job cost about £300.
If it where scored bores etc. I guess new engine, but surely bearings can be done? It's not a total rebuild.

Just a little update, I have managed to secure the funds to fix the s! Found a couple of engines on ebay that i'm interested in. I was looking to get it rebuilt but i don't have enough info/experience for that route. Will be looking to get it all up and running by the end of July with a PRM intake, low level spoiler and Q300 or hks high power exhaust fitted as well.

Is there a particular reason you wanted a 2004-06 engine rather than a 2002? I'm in exactly the same boat as yourself engine wise and trying to decide wether or not to take a punt on an ebay engine I dont know the history of or getting the original rebuilt.
