And so it begins

This has been painted very badly and the baffle has been out at some point

Reminds me when I did mine 18 months ago.. the spark plug seals were indeed fossilized to the cam cover. Bloody pig to remove they were!
you might not want to do the colour scheme I did

Silver base coat, then anodised purple. What the hell, dare to be different!
calipers are Gold also, and it sort of goes with the Suzuka / Shadow chrome wheels. I assume your going red wrinkle?

That, sir, is some tidy work

This one had an enamel red finish on (not OEM) which is a bastard to remove but getting there. I have wrinkle red and black VHT paint so it will be one of them

But for now it's still in strip.. about 6 coats of stripper so far

I used polycell paint stripper.. I must have had it 10 years before it was called into action. Lethal stuff, almost instantly bubbled it up and very easily came away. Quite enjoyed doing it, was enough space in the shed for several coats.
I was more concerned that the cam cover main seal worked, as the old one was weeping near the bulkhead side. But all good so far, torqued in sequence.
Look forward to seeing the end product

So.. new gaskets arrived, all good - Cox you are legends!

Both cans of wrinkle paint blocked up, one during spraying! So I popped the cover on, it looks ok and will do for now.

Cleaned the plug tubes out and removed the plugs. Having been torqued up some were loose and I found the threads on here stating various small increases in torque. I always use a torque wrench so a bit annoying. I am using honda service manual numbers.

this was all quite messy.

A bit of silicon grease on the tube seals and all back together. Started and seems to run lovely. I wonder whether all of this was contributing..anyway off to get emissions checked again, will consider what torque to use

Maybe a bit cold for wrinkle paint? Handy to keep old nozzles from empty spray cans.

Dunno Martin

So the remedy didn't work and she is running richer than ever. It's injector inspection time.

Dodgy map sensor ? Also check the throttle body isn't gummed (although unlikely) around the butterfly valve.

If not, primary O2 sensor may be goosed and really black. Sometimes they don't go quite bad enough to throw an EML, but still may be the running rich issue.
New Denso replacement, battery disconnect and a decent run.. hopefully could be the fix.

Thanks dude but this car ignores primary O2, runs a wideband in the cat and does use that but it can't help in this case

It's AEM so had AJ dialed in the other night, the injectors have a min time they can be 'open' for at idle, mine are at that but pushing enough fuel to hit 10 AFR which is very rich - cold start level

Taking them off tomorrow and will send away for test and clean
