I agree entirely with you. You have to spend serious money for serious feel.
The only off the shelf brands in more reasonable levels are lot and cat. My best advice, and most ironic, is a series one Exige. You'll lose nothing on one financially and enjoy it a lot. Crazily, it's the one Exige I haven't owned

So belt removal requires some serious flexibility and patience, there's a lot of difficult access including a mounting bolt right at the bottom of the engine
-remove air filter
-disconnect intercooler feed
-slacken belt tensioner right off
-remove 4 x mounting bolts at top
-remove centre bolt under rotrex
-remove tiddly bolt at bottom which is behind the ps motor so is a real pita to get at
the SC assembly can then be nudged forward to remove the belt
a chunk of my belt is stuck between the crank pulley and the SC drive which is bolted on to that

I dont Nick, oddly
i have some ideas to try first involving various thin things and some offensive language
i can't see an obvious reason why it failed, looking at the belt it's lost a few mm in width and split down one of the ribs. all the pulleys felt ok and the alignment looked ok to my eye so it may just have been a duff one, don't know how long it was on the car previously

Maybe the belts don't stand up well to the extra load placed on them - maybe need changing more often but maybe aren't due to the access?
Bracket on 'wonky' causing load in one particular area of the belt? Leading edge of belt subjected to too much heat coming through the bracket from the charger? Or didn't sit and cool the car down properly after being used and it's the latent heat that's caused it.
Never seem to see one of these FI cars do much mileage without some issue or other if the performance is used.
edit: Has it been rubbing on the metal clip securing that pipe ( i assume oil line) on?

it's a separate belt Unc, in front of the aux drive belt with a pulley bolted onto the crank pulley, they do fail (as opposed to the original one which on my 2001 is original)
good spot on that clip, I don't know whether as the belt has come away it hit that but I cant see anything else and the damage is of that nature - nicked on something and then torn off
there's a vid on flickr but not sure this link will work without going there, there is quite a gap

Generally a belt with fail...
It's old and been subjected to heat but in this case if it doesn't align square on with both pulley it's won't be aligned properly and do what you've posted... I've seen it before, are there bushes or top hats etc in this setup?
