back firing and loss of power :(
having a little difficulty with the motor, back last year a screw got sucked into cylinder 4 and made shite of the piston and valves took it all apart had the valves reseated and replaced everything, it starts fine and their is no problem revving it when it warms up, so i thought grand its fixed, had a track day on the weekend and problems started at first i tough it was limiting bcause it was cold but but unfortunately that was not the case, then it got worse and worse it will red line to 9K out of gear not a problem but when i go to drive it it will rev out fine then their will be a loss of power and it will backfire if i hold on the gas the more gas i give it the more it will DIE , this just got worse and i could only drive it using minimal gas then i decided to pack it in and go home my first tough is its over fuelling or their is a lead that funs off the same cluster of leads that go to the aultnator has any one got any ideas as where it might go ?? the engine is not in an s2000 shell
its only got 60k or so on the clock and its an AP2 with factory ECU
i will be getting the ECU fault codes looked at when i get the time
has anyone had this problem before, hopefully its just something simple like a sensor
cheers

Hi mate, it's an AP1 engine unless it's a 2.2.
Get a compression check done.
But check easy things first like loose spark plug.
If you run a cat, one of those collapsing can feel similar.
What's the exhaust like? Any smoke?

Sounds to me like there's a vacuum leak somewhere - that or the timing is out / cam position sensor (does that wire you mention need to plug into the crank position sensor ?)

The only time i've had that happen is when one of the two valve train cover sensors came loose - the second you applied any load it would not go over 3krpm and would cough and splutter up to that point,
As above - check the basics before you panic.
