Default Audio: Finding MiniDisc head unit to integrate with controls

Hi guys, I know there are loads of posts about the audio system, and I have trawled through a lot of them...but I still want to ask the question seperately.

I'm a huge MiniDisc user (old MR2 had a dual head Kenwood system, single MD, single CD slave - fantastic!) not only in the car but home sound system has MD as well as using a Net MD for work.

Anyway, I'd love to get a decent MD unit in the S2k, a lot easier to carry MD's around in the car! Has anyone attempted this, and have they integrated them with the audio controls?

I know there are CD solutions that can integrate with the controls, but I'm particularly looking for MD.

Assistance would be much appreciated. Cheers all.

Alpine used to do a MiniDisc head unit that could be connected to the dash controls using the KCE adapter.

I (sort of) have one of these head units ....... but it is faulty.

Forgot to add:

As far as quality goes, I challenge anyone to tell the difference between a "pure" CD and an "MP3" CD with the top down. Frankly, I don't think I'd tell even if I had one of those stacking vinyl decks from the 70s in the boot

Sony used to do a MD changer. If Alpine don't make a new one, you may get a compatible one on ebay.

...perhaps this is the time to move to MP3....you'll have far more options on what to do with your music (e.g. iPod for moving about, CDRs with 10 hours+ of music on them for the car etc.). The only snag is that you'll need a PC with a CD writer to store the music, write the CDs and fill the iPod (or equiv.) but in the long run you'll be making your life easier. And there's loads of MP3/WMA equipped head units out there...
Thanks for that daern, and I really don't want to turn this into a MP3 vs MD chat, although I'm quite happy to chat about that somewhere else if you want , but I already have everything you've said there without any difficulties.

I download all types of music or take any format and convert it to MiniDisc with one mouse gesture. I have LP4 format, which provides me with multiple hours (I stick to standard for quality so I don't know how many, think it's x4 on an MD) and there's the new HD MD's with something mad like 10x the normal storage.

Portable MD, home unit MD and car MD. I'm more than happy with that, and I can sit with a stack of MD's to listen to - way more storage than CD's in the car!

Any chance you could get the model number off the MD unit? I might be able to get one sourced then.

Yeh, I've been offered the changer unit, although since the size of the MD's is so small and it's so easy to change them, I'd prefer a head unit. I'm a bit nervous about having sections removed from the car to fit a head unit, or taking up valuable storage space!

Ray Smith HiFi (for those of you who know them) stated that no one is making MD units anymore - which was disputed by another local HiFi store - and Sony was the only maker of them now. To use the Sony, I'd have to rewire the whole car...Mmmm...strange thing is they told me similar things 6 years ago with the MR2, and that there were no dual head units. Boom. Dual head unit installed, no rewiring, different company...anyway...I rant!
