Not taken mine apart yet but assuming the radio control switches plug into a black box as indicated above to house the electronic components? Do you still have it?

If so can you not use the original switch (due to size or other) then perhaps another SPDT sprung centre off switch (needs to be sprung!!). Have a look around but something like this should be fine -
http://www.totalngauge.co.uk/?i=201745

I'd use the black box if possible as without the technical resistance and capacitance values of the components in the wiring diagram you might end up with a headache!!
If you can use the black box then the wiring will be straight forward with the new switch (I'm assuming the existing volume rocker switch has three connectors?).

If not and you need to go custom then the switch above could be used in conjunction with the Green/Red wire using an electronic component setup to achieve the values shown here http://modifry.com/products/dci/tech.htm

I'd be interested to see what the black box looks like and if you can take it apart as the circuit diagrams in the Honda wiring diagrams don't provide the electronic Ohm or Faraday values (think thats the right term).

When I took mine apart there is just a main board inside with all small buttons on, SMD LEDs on etc and then bigger switches (which we press) then press onto the smaller buttons

Just thought somewhere I got a whole spare switch console somewhere with all the volume and everything have no idea where it could be and where I could fit it

I did have a look at this further with a view to getting the resistor values so you could use just the one toggle button for the volume. The actual circuitry is quite simple although without the impedance values you have some problems.

The problem is that the only detail I've seen on T'internet doesn't compute with the electronic schematic and the laws of physics so without having the unit in our grubby little mits it's hard to see what these values should be.

I would like to have a spare to draw out the correct electronic diagram for all to use and potentially make some amendments to work with the Modifry box for those with a non OEM unit (i.e. toggle switch so you don't have to press two buttons for certain functions).

Looks like the head unit volume is the only option for the time although I can see why that isn't as attractive as it's good to keep your eye on the road - especially in this weather!! Have you tried sourcing a remote control unit from a breakers?

If you want the resistor values etc send me a PM with you email and I will send it to you.
I have made my own DCI unit for a Kenwood HU, so the values will be correct.

If you don't want to get in to circuit design, then the most pragmatic approach to this would be to buy a second hand working board, solder fly leads off from each switch position, then connect these up to your new switches. Then box the board up and mount it somewhere else under the dash. Then you're running OEM electronics and have just remoted the switches away from the board.

Agreed. As Stu mentioned it appears he doesn't have the board anymore so a breaker option and this approach is by far the more straightforward.
