Attention all Origin b2 (Solo) owners
As previously posted, I had a problem with my b2 Solo such that it no longer powered up when connected to either the car cradle or PC.
Budgie, in a response on that thread, referred to using the B1 button to power up the unit. Although this didn't solve my problem (unit was indeed u/s and has since been replaced), it prompted me to reread the manual to establish the correct procedure for inserting and removing the unit.
Up until now, I have started the car and then popped the unit into the cradle whereupon it instantly powers up on its own. Equally, when taking it out of the car, I just turn off the ignition and then take it out the cradle.
Budgie asserts that the correct method is to power down first (using the B1 button) and then similarly power up after insertion by using B1 again.
To me, the manual isn't explicitly clear about this so wondered what the rest of you do. I'm obviously concerned that my method may have been responsible for the unit developing its fault. I have emailed Origin to ask them but have yet to hear from them.

WTF was all that about holding the button in when inserting it in the cradle ... or am I just imagining you said that?
Must admit, I wait until after I've started the car before putting it in the cradle as doing it the other way round means the unit powers up, lose power (as you crank the car), and then powers up again. I was beginning to wonder if this might have been what fried it ...

In response to my email about the correct connect/disconnect or power up/power down procedures, Origin have come back to me with the following ...
"Many thanks for your mail. The Solo is designed to power on and off automatically, so you should not have to turn it on and off pressing button B1."
So, P1 and I can now confidently drop the thing in and out without any worries.

When I has my 1st blue i (original origin) it went pie-eyed. Origin replaced it FOC with a new modified one - which had in it whatever you need to counteract surges- which they said the S2 - et al. - was prone to. 2nd one stayed in place all the time - no problems. Ditto the current B2 (not a Solo).
