Last night we went to the cinema at Poole to watch "Deathwatch" and on the way home around 2am we spotted smoke on the road and slowed down to investigate.
It turned out to be exhaust fumes from a car that had just buried itelf into the trees, hedge and mud at the side of the road. We called the police and got out to help.
It turned out to be two drunk 17 year olds who were slurring their words and trying to push the rather crumpled car out onto the road again. When I stopped them and asked them to calm down the passenger ran off to get his mates and a tow rope ! Eventually the police turned up and sorted it out.
Just as I got back into my car, feeling pretty sorry for the kid who had bought his 5K car just 2 weeks before, it occured to me that if it had happened just 5 seconds later he would have smashed into my driver's door, certainly injuring me pretty badly (he must have been going pretty fast to get buried that deep in the hedgerow).
Even if you don't drink and drive this Christmas there are certainly those who will - watch out for them and stay safe.

Glad you weren't involved in the crash.
Glad the Police were involved, if the driver was slurring then he was well over the limit, hopefully he'll no longer have a licence for a while and the car is a write off.

On the way to work this morning I passed an MR2 (current, driver-friendly model) parked neatly in the middle of a field. It looked like it had gone off backwards (it was facing the hole in the hedge) but the damage was to the front
Anyway, it's getting slippy now so I'm off to re-read the winter driving tips.
