Not having organised a GB before - I might not be the best candidate.

However - I'd be happy to take a stab at it.
What would help though is to have a few "old hands" here vet it and recommend changes.

Edit - Just seen Shopman's post.

Although to be honest - I really don't see how hard it can be.
It isn't if it is done properly.

A little bit of organization and trancparency on the cost and payments is all that is required.

I am sure everyone that has done GBs in the past has there own preferred method of doing them.

The last one I did for the Hi-Flow cat was organised as follows:

o Get definitive price from supplier including discount levels. (If you don't get a definitive price up front, including the shipping costs etc, less people are likely to commit and more people will pull out at a later stage.)

o Post GB thread with details of product.

o Set closing date.

o Create Spreadsheet to record participant and payment info.

o Get payment method details from Supplier (It makes it much easier and more transparent if the participants pay the suplier directly) and PM them to everyone.

o Pass GB information to the supplier (in this instance I didn't have to as it was Lliod)

o Chase up the PMs.

Note: People will *always* pull out of a GB at the last minute or when payment is asked for so it is always a good idea to maintain a reserve list.

For overseas GBs, always check/allow for additional VAT and customs charges. This is one of the biggest causes of problems.

What does GB stand for? Gang Bang?
If you re-read the thread it's quite amusing.... I quote

"a guide for those who wish to organise a GB"

"I am sure everyone that has done GBs in the past"

"I have never seen such a badly organised GB"

So, anyone have anything else to add or change?
Please copy and paste.

Setting up a Group Buy

o Get definitive price from supplier including discount levels. (If you don't get a definitive price up front, including the shipping costs etc, less people are likely to commit and more people will pull out at a later stage.)

o Get payment method details from Supplier (It makes it much easier and more transparent if the participants pay the suplier directly) and PM them to everyone.

o For overseas GBs, always check/allow for additional VAT and customs charges. This is one of the biggest causes of problems.

o Note: People will *always* pull out of a GB at the last minute or when payment is asked for so it is always a good idea to maintain a reserve list.

o Post GB thread with details of product.
Please prefix Group Buys with GB:
Give as much information about the product, prices and terms on the first page with links etc, saves answering lots of questions later.

o Set closing date.

o Create Spreadsheet to record participant and payment info.

o Pass GB information to the supplier

o Chase up the PMs.

o Update thread regularly.

Remember:
s2ki is not a buy/sell service like eBay. It's not what we do or why it exists.
The FS forum is for the convenience of members but any transactions you choose to undertake are entirely at your risk.

I'll add this to the FAQ when considered complete.

Wow did it really go tits up? I never even looked into the scan gauge thread (I know the old paperclip trick )

I know my tct gb was a bit rocky but that was really the supplier going quite the day before i was suppose to finalise the numbers and pay, but in the end after a few phone calls to another company in the states it worked out and everyone got their tct.

The above is a good basic guide for a GB, only think i would say

o If you are taking payment and working out prices from the states try and make best & worst case scenarios with regard to the
