I think the Power Steering on the S is slightly stiffer than other cars I've driven. Some people on this board have actually complained about it being too heavy, but I think its perfect for the car!

it's not the weight of the steering but the fact that you don't get much feedback from the surface.........makes me wonder if it might be the lack of feel that has contributed to some of the offs.....knowing the state of the road surface is critical...
it's one of the reason I will only 'play to the audience' on roads where I know every nuance of the road surface. Sounds pedantic but on my 'favourite' roads I know just how much throttle to apply and when and how much correction will be needed.
Most of the time the car will come back into line more or less on it's own anyway in my experience....1/4 turn of lock seems more than enough so it's not the steering in itself that bothers me just the ability to read the road surface through feel alone is not that great
It's definately an area I am looking to improve on now I am getting to know the car a little better
For those who've got 225's up front has this improved feel by virtue of the increased contact patch and lower side wall?

Power steering shouldn't necessarilly affect the feel - the 200SX had PAS and the steering was possibly too light but the feel was excellent. You could feel the slightest thing the car was doing through the steering.
With the Honda, I find I'm sensing car behaviour more with my arse than my hands - steering is definately the cars week point.

Of all the cars I've ever driven (except a Renault 5 GT Turblow, or Porsche 911) this gives far more feedback through the tyres and steering.
Just going over a white line or driving in those tyre trenches, of the slow lane on a tarmac piece of motorway, can have the car pointing in a different direction momentarily. Cornering at speed feels positive and it gives warning signs before you push it too far (not so sure about the back end though)
The only thing that may reduce the feel (in my opinion) is the softness of the suspension.
Its not the sort of car that drives itself - you have to grab and point where you want to go because it is so sensitive to road conditions.

It may not be there just to pander to American tastes. Honda has a thing about making control inputs (clutch, brake, accelerator, gearchange, switches etc.) light and consistent across all the inputs.
IIRC LJK Setright used to wax lyrical on this point for paragraphs on end (usually while explaining why his Prelude was superior to ...).
After over 20k behind the wheel(s) of S2k's I believe I do get a good indication of what's going on under the tyres - but I'd have to admit it's not nearly as in your face as in say a 911 or a Mk2 RS2000. Better than most powerful FWDs tho' (??)

It's the one thing I'd change about the car, nothing else bothers me about the S2000, but after driving the MX-5 loan car while I was between S's, I was reminded of what good feedback while still giving power assistance can be like. And I find it distinctly lacking in the S2000.
As Zero says, it's not that there is no feedback (hello Audi....), just that it doesn't shout at you like the better systems do.

Yah, I know what you mean about the steering, I had a old crap heap 1.3 Ford escort for a while with no PAS and I loved it. Loads of feedback. A bitch to park though.

I don't know what people mean when they say" no confidence to push". I think the S is well easy to drive like a lunatic around bends fast and slow.
Since I got my motor I've been doing all sorts of scary stuff I didn't think I'd get away with in a RWD 240BHP car. You would have to be really silly to lose it in the dry.
