all I can say is that I dislike it......I guess this is what makes the steering feel so detached...I mean it goes where you want it to but it just doesn't feel so nice
With my MKII Scirocco you could feel how close you were to the kerb by the feel you got through the steering wheel...you just don't get that in the S2000 and I do miss that

I know what you mean Zero - I had my brothers mk2 MR2 for a week - it doesn't have power steering and it felt great! Especially when taking roundabouts and corners - you feel what the car was doing! That's when I realised that the S steering feel is a little ambiguous.

There have been rumours that you can mod the load signal to reduce the assistence, but I've not come across a car with this done. Just reducing the assistance a little like this mike work very well.
The other thing to think about is your car's alignment. Asside for the increased self centreing, the very high castor in the 'recommended' alignment helps give a little more steering feel.

I drove an unassisted 3 series for 10 years before getting the S. Last week I got back in the 3 for the first time in ages to take it for it's MOT. Couldn't believe how heavy the steering felt, and couldn't believe how I'd managed for all that time. PAS is the way to go for an everyday car.
