Anyone changed their own Brake Pads?
Hi all,
Has anyone changed their own brake pads?
If so can someone offer some advice ie detailed techy stuff and diagrams/pics would be great!! (as a rocket scientist my practical skills aren't that great!
)
I am thinking of doing it myself because due to our impending marrage I have less money than an African goat herder!
I have changed pads on other cars before but would appreciate some advice on the S2.
How much do Honda normally charge for it and how much is it to buy the pads (if you can!!)
Looks like I might have a weekend project along with my shed building

Edd,
This is a simple diy job that shouldn't take more than an hour for all 4 corners. I suppose if you have to ask, then you should really be paying someone else to do it instead. It's one thing to go fast, but you always need to be able to stop

As MB says its a very simple job.
In essence, as per any car,
pop the bonnet
remove the brake fluid fill cap
ensure you have protection around the cap (cloths etc),
jack the car,
remove the wheel in question,
unscrew the caliper from the hanger,
compress the brake piston,
remove the old pads,
watch for the fluid rise in the cylinder,
place in new pads
reattach caliper
refit wheel
lower car
Next wheel.
There is also another method that removes the bleed nipple from the caliper so old fluid is not pushed into the well. But I`ve *never* had a problem with the method I describe above.

nice one CC - just to emphasis this Edd - the brake fluid does not go well with yer paint, so protect well in case of spill.
Also do it on the flat, and put a brick behind the ground based wheel to prevent movement.

From what I remember the rear calipers have some sort of mechanism to wind them back built in. i could be wrong though as I haven't ever done the brakes on the S.
