Anyone been to Italy in the S ?
Planning a road trip to Italy in July /August, Heading to a place near Turin , Northern Italy.
Has anyone been this way before and can help with route planning advice ?
Also if you do know the area, are there any good roads I should look out for ?
Thanks, any help appreciated.

I can tell you that Turin and "Torino" are one and the same.
And Italy is a great place to practice your defensive driving.
What's that famous road that goes up from Monaco area towards Turin? Col de something...

We've been once-that was enough! We routed thru' Germany, to see family, then thru' the Alps, St Bernard etc. Very worthwhile trip down but we couldn't wait to get out of Italy TBH.

I've driven through Italy a couple of times, but never stayed there. Compared to France, Switzerland, Austria, Germany etc. it does feel like you've entrered a poorer backwards country and I've been quite happy to speed through and get somewhere better.

Plenty of great routes through the alps to get there. My personal experience of driving it Italy is that:
* The Italian Speed limit is the number on the sign plus 30
* After 1 kilometer the Fiat attached to your rear bumper will overtake regardless of road conditions
* The 6th car arriving at a red light stops
* Carabinari at speed traps carry sub machine pistols
* There is a marked difference in road surface on entering Italy from Switzerland (Fill up with petrol before you leave Switzerland)
* you tend to get lots of thumbs up from people
Enjoy your trip

Great place Torino.
I spent two weeks driving in Italy in the region you're going to - not in the S alas - and loved every minute of it.
The national motor museum in Torino is a must-see. It's in a typical Italian state of decadent decay but some great vehicles to see.
If you can get the opportunity, stay in the Le Meridien Lingotto - you can run around the old test track on the roof if you're a guest. Great!
There's the national film museum, Egyptian museum... and of course the essential walkabout to visit every notable landmark seen in The Italian Job!
Have a great trip!
