I suspected the higher idle was absolutely the norm [and yep, it did settle down after a few mins], though thanks for putting my mind at rest with respect to the smell of fuel.
MOT is due within 2 weeks, am hoping the weather gets slightly milder to avoid the over-fuelling affecting the emissions reading!

When your choice is a either the 5 series BMW or the "S" I'll take the "S" every time. I know I'm tempting fate, but no major incidents so far. Damn! I wish I hadn't said that now....
Comes to something when you opt to take the S2000 out in the snow rather than a supposedly everyday hatchback. He's replaced Bimmer with a Shogun, so S2000 shouldn't have to do snow duty in future.
