Anti fouler
#7
The actual use is for yank engines running big pistons that were hitting the spark plugs, move the spark plug away and the piston doesn't hit it, however it is the same thread as for the O2 sensor and moves it away fromthe exhaust gas flow fooling the sensor to think the CAT is in place and working.
(The above is what I heard, it could be for compression or a better spark, but that is what I was told)
IE Anti fouler, to stop something fouling against it.

Nearly right Simon, they are for filthy big old yank engines that oil up the plugs all the time. More agricultural and lorry stuff, the yanks used large capacity petrol engines a lot longer than most because of the cheap fuel.
They were used a little over here when we had Petrol engined lorries, my dad still remembers them from when he was in the trade.
I ran with two in my S2000 but some have only used one and it is still working for them. I am using one in my current car and it appears to work fine for the moment.
