Default Another what do I look for when buying an S2000 thread

Hi,

I am going to look at a 2001 S2000 at a garage it has done 37,000 miles, are there any major services that I should check have been done, cambelts etc, should these be done on a time basis or a mileage basis as its only done around 4000 miles a year. What are the service intervals?

I did ask if the suspensions bolts were free as I understand these can be an issue. They did not know, I don’t suppose there is an easy way of checking these.

Regards

Nick

No cambelt on the S2000

I suggest you read this thread:

Best way to check is to have an alignment done, costs around £100 but could save you £1000+ if the bushes are seized.

Servicing should be yearly regardless of miles done; I struggled with this one when looking for mine as a lot of sellers would leave services for up to two years on the basis that they were only doing 4-5k miles a year and then advertising it as fsh which it isn't...

With geo bolts again I got exactly the same response from the several cars I enquired about. Typically those advertised on this forum seem to cover this but otherwise you may have to accept the risk if looking elsewhere. The cars on the forum were typically priced much higher than those on pistonheads/autotrader so I decided to make sure it drives right and accept it as a risk and possible future cost, but then again I don't intend to put aftermarket suspension or wheels on my car.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies, very useful. I know a good garage fairly near by that has a specialist GEO man looks like I am going to have to insist on a check before committing to anything.

Regards
