Another stupid question,
I've had an aftermarket alarm fitted to my car with window closure.
Now my driver's window is being funny. I can't remember whether the car had a driver's auto-UP facilty as standard Now when I press and hold the button all the way, the window goes up but then automatically comes down 50% and stops. If I want the window up (and stay up) I have to edge it incrementally or get out the car and set the alarm.
The search has provided countless examples of faulty regulators where windows do not work or stop a couple of inches from the top. I have also seen people discussing 'resetting' the mechanism by winding down then holding down on the button - none seem particularly relevant here. There are now occasional judders on the way down which suggests there is something getting caught but I would have thought if it believed a child's head was stuck in it surely it wouldnt go up to start with?
Thank you

My MY05 certainly has an auto up facility.
I would try the window reset first; it may be that your window believes it is getting to the top & hitting something, hence it drops back down again. And far easier than stripping the door down. Mine did this after the wing mirror was removed to respray the door - worked fine after that.
Other option is you have something stuck in the runner and the window thinks it is an arm / head / any other body part.
AFAIK it requires a certain pressure against the direction of travel to reverse as the safety feature which again points towards something being stuck in there!
Might be worth trying to lube the runners / window adges before taking it all apart?

I'll try oiling it later but the reset wont work - as soon as you touch the auto up button (when the window it up), it rolls down to half again, so it won't accept 'the 3 second hold trick'
