Default another pearl of wisdom from my dealer

<me> so, what oil should I use to top up with before the 9000 mile service
<service guy> we use fully synthetic on all our cars (esso something or other)
<me> but the S2000 needs 10W 40 mineral oil for the first 9000 miles doesn't it? (I'm trying to give the guy a chance to correct himself)
<service guy> no mate, the S2000 does not need running in, fully synth is fine
<me> so if I gave you my car now for an oil change with only 1000 miles on it, you would add fully synthetic
<service guy> yes mate

at this point I didn't bother going into additives, I didn't want to confuse the guy

It really is a worry that after having the car for only a month, I know more about the technical issues than the service dept at my dealers

and thats why dealers are generally useless. Private sales the way to go, save that cash.

I'm fortunate in that my dealer know what tyres/oil/etc. it actually needs. They do everything within days of booking in and on time etc.

Try saying to them that Honda STATE what oils MUST be used (print something off if you can for proof) and speak to the service manager to point out that their staff are misinformed and that you are going elsewhere to a dealer that KNOWS what they are doing. If not possible, recommend that they speak to Honda UK else you will.

While I'm happy with the service from my dealer, they did give me a bottle of Shell semi-synth on picking up my new S, needless to say it's still on the shelf in my garage, only now knew different from this board, luckily didn't use it...

Most Honda dealers seem very ignorant to the specifics of the S, probably due to the low volumes sold.

funny that, when I was ordering my s2000 from my dealer yesterday - he said exactly the same thing - no running in and fully synthetic oil from day 1

Same here. Even after a discussion with the service dept they maintain that although mineral is "recommended", synthetic is just as good and won't do any harm.

Trust nobody at a dealer.

Noony.

I recently took mine to Marshalls (Reading) for its 4500 mile service. I had done around 5200 miles at the time. When I asked whether the oil filter, and oil would be changed during the service I was told yes they were, and the guy added - we will put fully synthetic oil in, I asked about Molybednum additives, and semi-synth oil, but he was adamant that they actually run S2k's from new with fully synth.

My car now has fully synth in it. Hmmmmmmmmm

If I remember correctly, the owners manual makes NO reference to having to use mineral oil for the first 9000 miles.
