Damn that's bad news.

Without trying to rub salt in the wound, I'm just wondering a few things to try and avoid doing this myself.

How old were your tyres?
Had you been driving long enough to warm them up?
Have you had a geo done?
Rear Tyres are almost new and have done about 4000 miles, fronts have done 18k and were on the car from the start.

I'd driven about 19 miles by that point (in the wet)

No I havent had a Geo done.

Reality is I pulled away too hard for the conditions, as I changed to 2nd the back steped out and It caught me completly off guard - I ran out of talent very quickly and what would of been a recoverable event for alot of you wasnt for me.

that's not good, but well done you for admitting it was driver related error.

I feel for you man, but honestly think there is something inherently wrong with a car that swaps ends, in a straight line and at speeds under 40mph.

Yes, Alignment is very important, but a car that is less than 5 years old shouldn't behave like that.

I guess group 20 insurance is the result.

Oh well, I've got the car now I suppose.

Truth is Punch, my mind wasnt 100% on the car where it should been given the wet conditions so what should of been a nasty fish tail I turned into a crash.

Dont even go into work that way usually either which has made me even more mad with myself.

A car older than 5 years shouldn't behave like that either.

I'd bet the geo was wildly out, and something to do with the road like nasty camber change, drain cover, or just a big bump unsettled it at a crucual moment. You have to look out for that sort of thing.

It is unlikely that you can blame the car. You can make anything spin at low speeds in the correct conditions. I remember driving my first Mini a long an icy road and I could barely keep it in a straight line... there was nothing wrong with that.

You have no idea how bad the conditions were or what other factors were involved... blaming the car is just jumping to very wild conclusions... Especially when the only guy who was there has admitted that it was driver error.

John, sorry to hear about what happened... but it is one of the reasons we have insurance... the car can be fixed/replaced... and you're OK.

Hope you get it sorted quickly.

Sorry to hear this mate. I've been driving it quite hard in the wet recently but I'm going to calm down now as it's getting icy too.

I gunned it in first the other night in the wet and then changed to 2nd and it hit the limiter straight away as the wheels were lit up, but it didn't even feel like it was going to spin.. could have been a number of things I suppose.
