Default Another check engine light thread!

Just driving around the Wirral and the check engine light came on. Drove to Two Mills Chester who were closed (servicing).

The engine is not idling smoothly and the vibrations can be felt through the drivers seat. When I put my ear near the exhaust I can hear a put....put.............put...... sound???

Has anyone got an OBD-II reader around the wirral that could plug it in and just check it for me? I'm down here until around 7pm, then I've got to drive back to Newcastle. Is it safe driving 200 miles with the check engine light on???

PLEASE HELP???

Hmmm my "guess" is its an injector, bad fuel or its possible misfiring.

Try an ECU reset, if you have no other options.

But i cant be sure, its shame you were not near cumbria as i have an OBD2 reader.

I've just got back from Chester. Going to take it to the local dealers tomorrow.

It's been happening for a while this sound. About 800 miles ago the check light came on so I did an ECU reset. The problem is still there and the check engine light has just came on again! Suppose I'll know the check code by tomorrow!

I've been running the S without the airbox lid for around 1000miles now. Would this have anything to do with the less than perfect idle and check engine light?

Put it back on and see?

The "put put" does sound like mine did with injector problems.

I take it you don't own a paper clip?

I do own a paperclip! But I've heard that it sometimes doesn't work! Honda should do it for free though, if they don't I'll walk away and get my paperclip out!

If it is the injector fault code, is it possible to just run some injector cleaner through it? I only ever run V-Power as well!!!

The paperclip seems to be an import thing (OBDii vs OBDi)

I got the instructions from the US parts of this site I'm sure, so it can't be JDM only.

Honda initially said they couldn't read the codes on mine, but they did okay once it went in properly (or perhaps they used a paperclip). The AA could read it fine with their computer.

There isn't an injector fault code, just a general misfire code.

That is weird. As I'd read that the JDM cars were not OBDii as they didn't need to be (or something along those lines).

I had to hunt for an age on other forums and do a few experiments to work out how to do it as I couldn't find anything on here.

Right, just got back from Springfield Honda and it has a general misfire code on cylinders 1, 2 and 4! The technician said that they'd
have to get it in to diagnose the problem further. He said that it may be worth while pulling the plugs out and cleaning them with a wire brush?

So, plan of action -

Put airbox lid back on
Clean spark plugs
run some injector cleaner through the system.

Anybody got any ideas what it may be????
