Annual Self Service for S
Hi
I am planning on giving my S a full service myself ready for the spring sun . I dont trust the pesty honda engineers doing the service since the S is a rare sight for them nowadays.
I am looking to replace:
Oil Filter -K&N HP-1004
Oil -Oil Mobile one 0W/40 newlife high performance
Air Filter -K&N include mesh cover
Sparks -NGK LASER PLATINUM SPARK PLUGS HONDA s2000 (F20C)
Brake fluid -Castrol Response DOT 4 is a high performance
Does anyone have other recommendations or suggestions I have a AP1 JDM S.
Thanks.

Everybody in the uk has an ap1, ap2 refers to the us 2.2 engined car.
If I were you I'd stick to the Honda oil filter(part number is on here somewhere) and make dure you tighten it up correctly 7 eighths of a turn after initial contact. Use castrol edge 5-30 or 5-40. Mobile 1 can be a bit too thin for some engined and the f20c can burn a lot of it. Your choice though of course.
If your doing all that change the gearbox and diff oil too, recommended oils are in the FAQ and it's not a difficult job just fiddly.
Lots of helpful owners on here if you get stuck.

Here are the deviations I'd make:
Genuine Honda Oil Filter. Others have been known to spin off. Ensure you get the tool to tighten it up correctly (hand tight NOT sufficient). They are available from Hellfrauds.
Castrol Edge TD 5W-40. Mobil 1 is known to break down after a while, resulting in high consumption. Check your oil every couple of weeks by the way, they do burn some. Ignore the Turbo Diesel branding, lots of us use it. You will need 6L.
Motul RBF600 Brake Fluid.
Spark plugs are available on eBay for much cheaper than Honda RRP.

with Loftus about the oil castrol edge 5W-40 Turbo Diesel (don't worry about the diesel bit) Halfords have this at a good price at the moment. 0W-40 is too thin for summer cold starts and "could" knacker your timing chain tensioner.
Is the K&N oil filter the one with the nut on the end? if so you can use that one and tighten it properly I've got one on with no problems, there is a tread showing how to make an anti spin bit for the filter (jubilee clip etc).
Any good quality DOT 4. And if you are replacing the brake fluid you might as well do the clutck as well, it would also be a good time to check the clutch slave ball, (see threads on heavy/creaking clutch pedel).
Deffo NGK plugs Denso ones have been known to fail doing loads of valve/piston damage.
Air filter, this cosworth one is a bargan, cheeper and better than OEM,

And yes to the gearbox & diff oil if you are not to exhausted by then!
And good luck!

Thanks for the AP1 correction .
Ok so K&N oil filter is not recommeded (should of checked before i ordered one). What is the part number for honda oil filter? as they appear to be different variations.
Are there other sparks plug recommendations (i want good performance set)? i only use my MY99 at weekends/evenings weather permitting.

thanks richmc - yes the k&N filter has the 1inch nut on top. will stick with that. I cannot find the relevance heavy clutch post you mentioned. Is this the one where we need to refill something with grease? i think i have seen this on the s2ki intro s2000 maintance PDF file.
Thanks
