Default Amsoil, Fuchs, Mobil 1

At the moment I'm using the Castrol SLX 0w 30 (from my Honda dealer) but a service is due so I'm looking at getting some slightly cheaper oil. It's almost £16 a litre now!

I find myself wanting to try different oils like Mobil 1, Fuchs, Amsoil. The Amsoil seems to be good (according to the US side), does anyone use that here and what weight?

Does it really make that much difference?

No, not that you would ever notice.

Owen, oil is possibly the most discussed topic on the forum, try a little search as the "what oil" debate is almost weekly

I'd go for a Castrol 5w40 Edge fully synthetic, rather than some of the obscure US manufacturers though.

All kidding aside, there is little difference in premium oils. Just use the best you can afford and stick with it. DO NOT mix different brands or types of oil ever. That would be very bad.

Most people pick a brand and stick with it for life, some do it for longer than they are with their spouse.

Sorry, but Bollocks.

All oils are a blend and changing brand or even viscosity will make no difference at all.

I use Amsoil, because I believe my engine runs better on 10W30 in my 8 years experience with the car. I use Amsoil rather than Redline recently as it has been cheaper the past few years. No difference. 10W30 is not widely available over here.

After reading the thread from Opie I have learned a lot, none of the other threads on oil were of much use to be honest. I think I'm going to go for the Motul 300v or Silkolene Pro S. Opie recommends 5w-40 or 10w-40 but not sure what the difference is, I gather it's the viscosity on cold start up?
