Chaps

A few guys have IM'd me asking if i filmed my rolling road run on saturday, well I managed to grab the footage of my Power run on my camphone (Real player format & 657k in size), but it hasn't come out very well

1. I started filming WAY too soon, so he doesn't actaully start accelerating untill 33 seconds into the film (you can hear the growel!) and also there is a lot of background noise from the fans AmD use to cool the area which the phone picked up more in places.
2. When the VTEC kicks in at 53 seconds, it goes a bit higher pitch for some reason. :?
3. Watch the AmD guy (holding the fan at the front) signal to give it 'more' when the driver lets go of the 'loud' pedal at the end!

It gives you a general idea though!

http://www.fnet.freeserve.co.uk/s2krollers.3gp (To download right click the link and 'save target as' cos your machine might not recognise the strange format Nokia use. You can then open with RP)

Cheers
Kevin

Me to - I have seen else where it is @ 204 at the wheels!
I took mine to G-Force Motorsports when I first collected it and put it on their RR and it measured 196.2RWHP. As their equipment is set up to read wheel HP rather than flywheel I'd say this was pretty much acurate and only a temparature change would see a slight difference in figures either way.

Flywheel figures may look good and excite people, but it is what is actually getting to the tarmac that counts.

Hmmm, the standard 225 is pushing 239 bhp (line 10) and the 250 bhp TT is pushing 258 bhp (line 12). Is this a case of VAG being conservative with its output figures, or a case of the dyno being rather generous?

I think it may be Audi being conservative. I remember a few other S3 225's getting 230+ on other rolling roads when I used to be a part of audi-sport. This was relflected at Santa Pod too, where I was getting better times than some chipped S3's.

Don't forget that these are corrected figures. The dyno can only read out the rear wheel BHP and torque figures. They make assumptions as to how much is lost on the transmission to arrive at the flywheel figures. The only way they will get a true flywheel figure is take the engine out and run it on an engine dyno. As someone has already said it would be far more useful to have the actual rear wheel bhp figures.

Just been sent a picture taken by another guy who was at the meet. I'm on the right walking away from the car, but I prefer to look at all the AmD techicians crowded round to look at the digital dash, rev counter and driving position whilst commenting on how good it is! The guy with the clipboard was organising the cars on>off the rollers and that was one of the first times he ventured into the booth all day to chat with the driver about it!, AND the 2 others actually came out of the workshops (they are open on saturday) to look at the S! 4 of them all wanting to look at the S. You know Honda made a really special car didn't they when you see something like that!
