Always wanted to ask this, what happens if you press the start button whilst the engine is still running?

Girlfriend has just done it! Arghhh , any damage caused?

Shouldnt be tooo bad mate, its a bit like turning a key once the car is started, i think. i have done it a couple of times in my S, other that the noise of the starter motor crunching the car has been fine, though i would let her get in the habit of doing it

Yeah, you'll get a crunchy noise as the starter tries to engage.

You'll be fine

I have done this also, it was in the dark and I was trying to press the audio button just above the start button on my car the abs light came on briefly then all was well, is there and wiring mod that can be done to stop me being a muppet in the future ?

Cheers.....Tony..

Cars have always done this, you'd think after so many years manufactures whould have sussed a way to disable the starter solanoid when the engins running.

When I first got my S2000, I pressed the start button a couple of times to turn the engine off. The previous two cars I owned had a start/stop button. I soon learnt.

As we run 5 Series as well (it has a start / stop button) I have done this a couple of times. Would no doubt cause ring gear / bendix damage in the long term, if you don't learn.

On mine, it does nothing at all.

(unless you have the clutch in).
