Default Alpine radio iphone connection

I am in desperate need of upgrading my sound system, but a good starting point would be to be able to use my iphone... CD's are so 2003, lol

I currently have this deck

The previous owner installed it along with the dashboard controls module which plugs into the 3.5mm jack in the back.

Is it possible to connect an iphone/ipod ? What do i need to do it ?

ps - dont want to use those crappy fm transmittors, they are rubbish.

Thanks

Looks like it might work if you just want to play but not control it.

But having read the reviews, i think i'd rather have an iPod controlling NEW unit

The iPhone/Pod will result in worse sound quality, so from that perspective, it'll be a downgrade!

Most Alpine units can be fitted with a cable that allows you to connect an MP3 player with a 3.5mm headphone jack and there is a selection here http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/mfg/alpine.html although there is no mention of this in the manual, so you'd need to check. I think this s the cable you need to do that http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-kca-235b.html No iPod charging though.

There is also mention of using a KCA-420i iPod interface, but again, you'd need to check http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-kca...-interface.html However, at £100 you'd be better off buying a new head unit. In fact, that's probably the best bet.

This http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-cde111ri.html will do the job, and will probably work with the dash control interface you already have.

This is a bit more, but has a better iPod interface http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-ida-x301rr.html

Not the same, as my link includes the cable, but some good prices there, although the Car Audio Discount real price is £98.51. The cable is an extra £30 http://www.caraudiodiscount.com/accessorie...le-p-13822.html

Many thanks gents, Lovegroova, did you just happen to have all that written down somewhere ? you know your stuff clearly.

I think at the end of the day, its just alot easier if I get a new deck with a proper ipod connection.

Problem solved.

thanks

Given you already have an Alpine dash control adapter, I'd stick with Alpine. (I suspect you have the old KCE-865B interface fitted given the age of your HU).

If you want budget, then the 311R I linked to above is probably your best bet, but this is uf's list filtered for Alpine. http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/head-units...55caaabc0411b13

It's also worth thinking about a Bluetooth enabled model if you want to make calls in the car. Quite a few people have the 114BT IIRC.
